THE WORLD: 1947
%
On September 5th, 1941 at a political rally in Berlin, Adolf Hitler
has an anuerism and dies.
%
History will never be the same.
%
It is now February of 1947. America is busy with rebuilding Japan and
keeping China "Red Free". The once mighty Britain still holds onto its
beleagured empire, but only does so through the threat of complete Nazi
dominance in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Nazi Germany, after
almost exhausting itself chasing the Soviets to the Urals, is licking
its wounds and demobilizing its expansive military...
%
...or so they would like everyone to believe.
%
The fact is that Nazi Germany isn't done picking fights. It still has one
more kid on the block to knock down to size, the United States, and this
kid has a realy nasty knockout punch - the Atomic Bomb. The Nazis are still
years away from making their own bomb, but an atomic solution won't solve
all of their problems. If the Americans manage to achieve mass production of
the weapons a large scale war will be impossible for the Nazis. The United
States has to be destroyed before atomic weapons become a mainstay in war.
To wait any longer will invite failure for Germany's plan of total world
domination.
%
The neutralization of the United States and her ever scrappy ally Britain
will take cunning, guts, and a keen eye for strategy. Think you can start
a war?
%
=Brief Summary of the World Powers=
%
The Third Reich:
%
Victorious in the 1938-1944 European War the German Empire now spans the
majority of Continental Europe. From the shores of France to the Ural Mountains
millions bow down to the banner of the Nazi party.
%
Since the end of hostilities in Europe German war production was known
by the British to have dropped off considerably as the lands achieved in Operation
Barbarossa were processed. Though while the military industries of pre-Barbarossa
were being shut down, new hi-tech industries were coming to fruition. Based on a plan
proposed by Albert Speers and the new Fuehrer, Erwin Rommel, the Reich would
decommission much of their armed forces in a showing of peace to the rest of the world.
This plan was aimed primarily at lulling the United States into a sense security,
buying the Reich time to develop the next generation of weapons for the next inevitable war.
By 1947 several production schedules had been met concerning the development of a
totally Jet driven Luftwaffe and the E-Series of Wehrmacht armor. It was expected
that the advances made late in the last war would be ready for full deployment by
the time Germany had built their first atomic bomb.
%
Unfortunately for the Nazis the lead researcher for the project, Werner
Heisenberg, died mysteriously on March 1946 while developing a sustainable
chain reaction in the Eastern Rhine Atomic Research Facility. Heisenburg's
body was found in a reactor airlock by his fellow scientist Niels Bohr, who
reported that Heisenburg had threatened to leak news of the progress of the
project to the British. Bohr, once suspected of diffecting to the British,
is currently in charge of the Atomic Research Project.
%
Plans for the war against the U.S. hinge on reports that the Americans have
only managed to build a few atomic bombs so far. With such a small arsenal
there is still a chance for Germany to win a war with the Americans, providing
they can knock out the atomic production capability of the U.S..
%
The United States:
%
After the Pacific War (1941-1944) that included the defeat of Imperial Japan
and the pacifying of Communist forces in mainland China the United States
has entered a period of prosperity. A new music craze that is a cross between
Big Band and Jazz has swept the nation under the name of "Rock and Roll".
%
Even though the United States turned a deaf ear to the events of the European
war it did provide Britain with material and financial support for use in her
war effort. This support solidified the friendship between the two countries
and nearly resulted in the U.S. declaring war on Germany in 1941 and again in
1944 when it looked like the Germans would mount Operation Sealowe II. The U.S.
would eventually broker a peace deal between Germany and Britain in late 1944
as Soviet suicide attacks and new Commomwealth troops started putting pressure
on German holdings in Southern Russia.
%
The U.S. took a terrible toll invading the home islands of Japan, loosing
50,000 G.I.'s taking Kyushu alone. The fact that the Manhattan Project was a
year away from producing a fission bomb and the Soviets were in no place to
put any pressure on Japan from the West prevented a quick end to the war. By
late 1944 the U.S. had lost 128,000 soldiers taking the home islands, even with
mass firebombing from the new squadrons of B-29s.
%
The U.S. is still has the majority of its forces in mainland China but
President Truman and the U.S. Congress have authorized an immediate re-deployement
of forces to the Atlantic theatre due to the sudden straining of ties between
the United States and Nazi Germany. By February 1947 airbases in Britain are
filled with B-29s and the Pacific fleet is quickly sailing up the Panama Canal to
the North Atlantic.
%
The British Empire:
%
Referred by the American's as "scrappy" bulldogs and respected by the Nazis
as "viable opponents" the British have made a name for themselves. For 6
straight years the might of the British Empire held off the best the Reich
could throw at them, even after Hermann Goering started unleashing his jet
powered Me-262 on the Royal Airforce. The Brits countered with a jet of their
own, the Gloster Meteor, and managed to win the second Battle of Britain in
the final onslaught of late 1944.
%
The British "Empire" still stands over much of the world, but with the strain
of war many of their holdings have been granted home rule. India still supports
Britian with troops and resources, but only in exchange of increased autonomy.
Queen Elizabeth, grateful of the Indian troop buildup in upper Armenia during
1944, even managed to visit the country in 1945 for a goodwill tour.
%
Besides fighting the Nazis to a standstill during the European War the British
Empire is facing an economic crisis as trade realtions were never re-established
with mainland Europe after the war. This situation has been further aggravated
by the sudden increase in hostilities with the German Reich.
%
Due to the increased hostilities between the Nazis and Britian Churchill has made
it a goal to entice the U.S. into declaring war against Nazi Germany if Britain
is attacked. It is known only to Churchill himself and a few trusted soles on
Downing Street that Britain has signed an alliance with the Americans. Crucial
to the deal is the sharing of new deposits of uranium that have been recently
discovered in British holdings in Africa. The British plan to share the ore with
the Americans in exchange for atomic technology and a military alliance if war
breaks out. Churchill knows that the U.S. slowed research into Atomic weapons
after the end of the Pacific War but is just now racing to catch up. If the U.S.
manages to assemble a modest stockpile they might be willing to share one or
two bombs with her British friends...
%
Soviet Russia and Autonomous Regions of Siberia:
%
The events of the past 5 years have not been kind to Mother Russia. The once great
Red Empire now lies in ruin. Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad all fell to the
Nazi campaign in 1943 after the failure of Stalin's counterattack. Millions
were slaughtered as German panzers destroyed the heartof Lenin's workers paradise.
%
Not much is known of what happens in the steppes of Asia past the Ural mountains.
German patrols rarely venture very far from their bases that far out on the
fringes of the Reich. It is said that anarchy reigns and that the only authority,
if any, is commanded by a Soviet general by the name of Georgi Zhukov. Zhukov was
reportedly the one to take possession of Stalin on his return to Soviet territory
after the traitor was forced to sign a peace accord with Germany. Rumor has it that
Zhukov executed Stalin himself.
%
Soviet military units generally are defensive. They seem to have converted their
old tanks to buried turrets and have established a large amount of watchtowers on
the German border.
%
Reports of inactivity from the East have been well received as late due to the
buildup for war in the Atlantic. German high command expects no problems whatsoever
from the Soviet remnants for the foreseeable future.
%
Independent States and Unaligned Nations:
%
Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Iceland, and Mexico have all adopted neutral positions
in the time being. None of these countries have made any move to support the U.S.,
Britian, or the German Reich stemming from the fear of military or economic
intervention.
%
Unaligned Nations, such as Portugal, Iran, and Cuba have been taken over by
agressive regimes that readily attack any and all countries dumb enough to venture
near them. Stay alert when traveling close to these countries. The government of
Venezuela is currently in a state of flux and is being supported by the Americans
and Brits.
